Describing Animal is an activity to describe particular animals in English. For example, we can describe about parts of the animal's body, activities that animals usually do (animal activity), the animals' food, how does animal move, ect.

Part of Animal's Body

In describing the animal's body, we will differentiate into three parts: Head (head), Body (body), and Leg (Legs).

1. Head

Example of Describing a Cat:

Cat is my lovely pet. My cat is female, I named her as Polly. Polly has orange fur colors, with a brown striped pattern. Her whisker is long and white. Polly has a long tail that she always wags when she wants to catch a mouse or lizard. Polly is a nosy cat, she usually pokes anyone who passes beside her. Besides being nosy, Polly is also adorable. She will look for a soft place to sleep, for example on a sofa, mattress, etc.

Artinya:

Kucing adalah hewan kesayanganku. Kucingku betina, aku memberi nama dia Polly. Polly memiliki  bulu yang berwarna oren dengan corak garis-garis cokelat. Kumisnya panjang dan berwarna putih. Polly memiliki ekor yang panjang sehingga ia selalu mengibaskannya ketika ingin menangkap tikus atau cicak. Polly adalah kucing yang usil, dia biasanya mencolek siapa saja yang lewat di sampingnya. Selain usil, Polly juga menggemaskan. Ia akan mencari tempat yang empuk untuk tidur, misalnya di atas sofa, kasur, dll.

Tips to write a descriptive text:
1. Make sure to choose a meaningful person, place, or thing;
2. Introduce the person, place, or thing you are describing;
3. Engage your reader’s sense of sight;
4. Describe smells, tastes, and appearance if you can;
5. Describe how the moment or item feels;
6. Describe how your subject sounds;
7. Make unique observations;
8. Include some figurative language; and
9. Wrap it up.

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT, or in terms of writing only known as “description” is one of English texs that should be known and understand by students.

Writing a descriptive text have to be very readable and easy to understand. Therefore, if we were able to master this lesson well, we might be able to become a great writer in the future.

Description

The descriptive text is meaningful text that describes the experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound, taste is. Most descriptive text is about visual experience, but in fact the experience other than the sense of sight, we can also use it to make descriptive text.

But in particular, the descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

Generic Structures

1. Identification: contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be described.
2. Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describes.

Purposes

The purposes are to describe person, thing or place in specific and to describe a particular person, thing or place.

Language Features

1. Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). For example, Parangtritis beach, My Lovely Pet, etc.
2. The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, has a big body, etc.
3. The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described.
4. Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, crawl, etc.)
